In every person's life there's a handful of people that make a mark, and no matter what you will remember that people forever.
I think is safe to say that in the case of George McFly and his wife one of that person was a strange student, let's call him Calvin Klein. She tried to fuck him, among other things, and he is partially the reason they ended up together.
Surely, no matter how many years had passed, they'd remember that young fella.
How did George Mcfly felt when he first realized his son Marty looked a whole lot like his friend from the 50s? Did lived with the doubt that his wife had seen him later in her life? Did he secretly hate Marty? Did he thought his wife had been cheating on him for years? How did she feel when her son started looking like pretty much the first guy she fancied? Did the people their generation in town look and Marty and think he looked like the kid that invented rock n roll at their prom?
